At Tryon Forest Adventures, campers connect with nature through hands-on science, hiking, and creative expression. As Portland's longest-running nature day camp, they foster a sense of community and respect for the forest. Children will explore the trails, learn about local flora and fauna, and build lasting friendships in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Tryon Forest Summer Adventures - We Love Summer
Identify forest plants by hiking and making tea, flower seed balls and ivy crowns. Learn about animals by examining pelts, paws and poop. Discover forest beauty with arts and crafts projects like leaf art and cordage making. Play in the meadow with fort building and camp games like the popular Poison Dart Frog! Care for the forest by planting trees and tending their own seeded pots to take home.
Tryon Forest Summer Adventures - Water! Water! Water!
Learn what lives in the creek by hiking to find aquatic bugs, plants and animals. Become an environmental scientists and examine water temperature and chemistry. Study how water moves and flows with interactive stream tables experiments. Play games, create forts in the meadow, learning to work and play as a community. Create arts and crafts that get your creative juices flowing to celebrate the wonder of water.
Tryon Forest Summer Adventures - Fun in the Sun
Learn how the sun produces energy by building solar powered ovens, greenhouses and hot air ballons. Use the sun to experiment with prisms and make your own rainbows! Create sun inspired arts and crafts like sundials, sun prints and sun catchers. Hike the park trails to see how the sun helps everything to grow. Play games, create forts in the meadow, learning to work and play as a community.
Tryon Forest Summer Adventures - Forest Protectors
Learn why it's important to take care of the environment through restoration and reciprocity. Hike the park trails to collect ivy and blackberry vines for making crowns and cordage. Create signs that encourage visitors to stay on trail and protect newly planted trees. Learn about how to keep the creek clean through water quality testing. Make bat boxes, bird houses and other shelters to create safe habitats for animals. Play games, create forts in the meadow, learning to work and play as a community.
